That concerns colour tune & white balance.

That in fact depends on what the photography wants. THERE IS NO WB STANDARD for a DC even if u use custom white balance.

Different sensor & circuit combinations different colour tone or style that suits different people.

For me, I don't use CAN0N nor NIKON (except D40X) to shoot portrait, the colour from their DSLR is just not the taste I like (I prefer more pink skin, more red lips), I HATE the direct JPEG from DC with GREY SKIN, BROWN LIPS.

If u like the pink skin, red lips, why don't u try
SONY's DSLR & R1, they give very colourful jpeg out of the camera.

d2c if u use d40/d50/d80 & compare the color with those taken if D40X, u will know how lovely the colour on portrait D40X offers.

That is not related to sRGB, it is related to the sensor, sampling method & circuit design related to how the different light spectrum recorded is reproduced.

E.g. for DC A, 10 red photons hit the sensor, it gives a signal of 10 units
10 green photons hit the sensor, it gives a signal of 10 units

BUT for DC B, 10 red photons hit the sensor, it gives a signal of 11 units if the manufacturer wants to emphrasize the RED

actually maybe you can try customising the tone curve..

I loaded a different set of curve into my D70 and really brought up the red.

I would say the skin tone of my D70 is close to my Fuji S3pro. perhaps 90%


I have tried compare Adobe RGB and SRGB and the result is obvious, most of our monitor do not have Adobe RGB colour space thus pics shows up grey and colour satuation low. SRGB is better for viewing on most monitor screen and for printing at photo lab,

i can say the 6mp ccd nikon color is better than the 10mp like d40x d80 and d200

i can sure that becasue all console i have in the say enviroment
d40 color for people face is better than d200 the 10mp ccd make me feel very grey

i try to make the sb-800 value lower or i must set the color to very vivi
than better buy if not do this the 10mp d80 d200 all very very grey


you can say this is depend on what you like

but i think if a profresstional photograhter will not accept what the grey like picture

it make the face like a dead people

but the nikon d40 d50 d70 is more color better than the 10mp but only is lower resulution

if you have more brand console like pentax canon or olympic

you will feel that d200 and d80 face picture is very very bad

Dudes, the similar nikon grey pic topic has been discussed long time ago (and again and again... )
With most Nikon dslr cameras, you need to work more than others. Because the higher-graded (begin with entry level) Nikon cameras are designed to keep most of the details, and this result in grey tone and under exp. We can see this beginning from D70 series already.

Personally I am not a Nikon fans and I don't just use Nikon cameras. I don't really see a problem with Nikon cameras' grey pics. Besides, grey picture gives us a safety net when we fail to expose or in crazy light soruced enviroment, at least we have a chance to save some unique and valuable pictures. This specail is really comparable with other brands.

Moreover, you talked professionals, who professionals do not work after they shot the pictures.
A guy said me a joke, "we shot a picture in 1/4000s, but we need 4000s to make it better."
This was what people doing from the stone age of camera. And also the reason of RAW file format exists today.
Alright enough of history and theory.

I want to ask is that a camera body really mean that much in shooting picture?
You want the true color. but what do you want truely? realistic? sexy? love? sorrow? nature?

ps1:
If you want to take jpeg, you should pick one more prosumerDC/D40/D50 as you're rich enough.
It gives you quite good pics without minding anything after you pressed on the shutter.

ps2:
here is a joke. when D3 and D300 come, our D2 or D200 will instantly shoot @!#$ pictues.
And, when D4 come, our D3 will give @!#$ also.

如果係主觀意見的，喜歡用C記咪用Ｃ記囉，所有流行牌子都影得靚，喜歡C記都係正常的，用吧！

如果係理性討論研究，應該用raw，因每部機的設定各有風格。並要用同一曝光值，且同一畫面，大頭相與半身相跟本就有許多不同。

先前亦已提過，各牌子機網上都找到靚照片的，若你用Ｎ記影得唔好，那是Ｎ記唔啱你，或是你唔識用Ｎ記機而已。

May be hanny means "direct JPEG" from D200, most of the pictures posted are fine toned by post-processing.

I can use my 2 MP phone to take several pictures & use autostitch to join them together to give a 20 MP pictures & PS it to beat a picture taken with my FF 5D.

BUT do you really want to use a 2MP cam phone to shoot?
