Beginner of DSLR using Canon 400D kit set. What settings does it need to take sharp color photos? Or is it just difficult to take a sharp color photos using the kit lense?

Try different picture style first and if you need go to Canon web site and find the picture style file to download and install in the picture style user defined no 1, 2 or 3.

I like to use landscape mode to take photo, it is coloful compared with others (own comment only).

The photos I have taken so far mostly turns out to be yellow. Is there something wrong with the camera itself or do I need to switch to a right setting to avoid the yellow color?

1. check whether u have back focus problem, see
http://www.canon-dslr.com/Canon_Jan05/Canon_SLR_Focus_Test.htm
2. check whether u have hand shake problem, use kit lens to shoot photo on newspaper USING flash
3. check setting problem, sharpness, saturation, contrast etc. should be at least 0, 0, 0
The kit lens is bad, but it can still give sharp photos near the centre of photo
