I don't know and I don't care. Almost all digital cameras are made in China, Thailand, Indonesia, and Philippines etc. Even Taiwan is considered to be too expensive in cost saving. Back to 30 years ago, Canon had a very big factory in Taiwan but was closed and moved to China; Pentax had assembly line in Hong Kong and many Pentax lenses were made in Taiwan. Now when some models of a certain brand claim that they are made in Japan, everybody knows that they are simply assembled there only, not manufactured - unless you insist that when the parts are put together and shipped out from Japan, then they should be called 'made in Japan'. You believe the QC in Japn is better?? No one can guarantee that. After all,working ethic of Japanese has also deteriorated a lot.
The most important sector of your topic seems to me is if the camera I buy is reliable both in workmanship and quality and can deliver what I've expected. Country of origin is always not the first priority.
