I agree with your choice, this len now has HSM, if you like use for close shooting this is also a good len.

Do not worry the hand shark because this len only 70mm. But, I will conder the 18-50 f2.8 HSM and Marco. it has 18 t0 50 at f2.8 so no hand shark problem because you may always use higher speed.

not necessary 後悔, my copy of SIGMA 18-50/2.8 @ 18 mm /f4 is of more or less similar quality of 17-40/4 @17mm on 350D

my copy of SIGMA 80-400@80 mm /5.6 gives razor sharp photos on 350D

In terms of lens quality, sigma can produce very good lens, but of course, don't expect good lens at cheap price.

17-70 支鏡幾抵玩, 對我黎講最大好處係對焦距離非常近.
近到貼住支鏡頭影都得, 同 dc 有得揮. 室內非常好用.

成像唔差, 最大光圈可用, 冇乜紫邊, 不過隻 hood 一樣係會甩野.

附帶一提係 HSM 版只係會有 nikon 版, 所以唔駛等,
見到買就 ok 了.

Please note:

This len at 17mm is f2.8 but once to zoom the len it drop to f4.0 and f4.5 very soon!
