You should see the pictures produced by the 2 cameras first. They have different characteristics. One example is Nikon is generally sharper and therefore better for landscape and Canon is more "natural" and is better for portrait. It is a matter of preference and is very subjective. Some people may disagree. Check out the album section of this website. There are many beautiful pics.

其實講錢，買D40/ D40x會比較划算，因為枝kit鏡成像不俗。

如果你買350D，多數人都叫你換過枝kit鏡，咁錢一定多花過買D40。

好多人都講過C記低價機有走焦問題，我費事有罵戰，你自己做吓Research啦。

350D can use all EF lenses and EF-S lenses (all EF/EF-S lenses have AF motor)

D40/D40X when use older lens without built-in motor will not have Auto focus.

Canon kit lens - it really depends on your requirement or expectation. It is not bad. Okay at its price. Of course, it is not as good as other Canon lens at 4 to 10 times the price of kit lens.

個人認為 : 銀兩少的 ( 一萬蚊以下) , 買 Nikon 好些 如 : D40, D40X , D80 ....

銀兩多的 ( 一萬蚊以上) , 買 Canon 好些 如 : 40D , 5D, 1D Mark III .....

粗略的講 : Canon機和鏡頭在高檔系列中表現比 Nikon 的好, 但在低檔系列

中表現比 Nikon 的差 ~

Although I am a Canon user (and a die-hard fan), I have to admit Nikon D40 with its kit lens is better than Canon 350D with its standard 18-55 kit lens. The Canon kit lens is really bad, you may as well just buy the body and buy a fixed lens 50mm f1.8 to play around first.

350D is much better than 40D, more responsive, much lower noise at high ISO.

the Canon kit lens is good for 8R photos, of course, if u enlarge the photo in your monitor, u can discover some CA & lost of sharpness. BUT this occurs also in Nikon's 18-55 kit.

BUT if u have more $, u should also consider D40X, water good kit $4300.

The accessories of Canon is generally more expensive than those of NIKON

多謝你們的意見呀！我想比較的是Canon350D同NikonD40x，唔好意思打錯字！今早我問過兩隻機，D Sales話Canon350D冇單Body買，又話如果我另外配鏡頭會好貴！想也不想就叫我幫佢買Kit...但朋友話kit鏡唔好，我又唔識，所以作唔到決定！當我話想比較D40x時，個Sales就話NikonD40x冇自動對焦，要另外配鏡頭，更嚇我話D40x得三點對焦，動作大D都拍唔到！唔知點算！我的預算得4-5千元，又怕買2手的相機會出現問題，各位大哥大姊，請教教我吧！

Go for 350D, the kit len will be good enough for people from DC, if you are interested in DSLR in future and you may save some money for other lenses later.

350D is a camera with potential. If you buy it now, when you have money and want to upgrade, you can get better Canon lens (or other brands like Tamron & Sigma etc.). Still, the 350D body can perform better with better lens. I must say I do not know about D40X. Maybe others could help and comment.
