My one month old 40D is getting the error 99 code can someone tell me what it is? I am using sigma 17-70 lens......

its a brand new camera for god sake......please comment!!!!!!!

showroom tell this is normal. then, I go to buy D70 those days.

is it a firmware problem? or just "isolated" incidence?

i check on the web and it seems like this is a common problem, some say that its the lens body contact problem, i took out the battery and cleaned the contact, reinsert and its seems fine.....dont know how long it will last though.................i never thought this will happen to big company like canon.........and i just starting to take some decent picture with it and the image from sigma 17-70 is really good...........damn........hope everything is ok,,,,,,,,,,,,, :-(

call up canon service and the rep (btw very polite) mention to remove the battery and reinstall the lens should help. but using non canon len like sigma in my case is inevitable to have the error code because of the contact problem.........so we have to live with it................

Using "Sigma SD14 ", all problems will disappear.

Of course, the code "ERROR 99" is only for Canon, not for Sigma.

My 40D also has this problem.
Just power-off / on again.

Do YOU have time to switch power on/off during important events? the extreme is sports.

WHO can compensate when this problem come?

One said, "Photography is to capture the precious moment of life." What to do if you need to power off / on at that 'moment"????

Nicely, I have no regret to leave Canon on Digital.

in my experence, error 99 is come from the len contact with body in error.

i just say, u zoom in and zoom out u will trun your len. if it just lose, the error will appear. Therefore u try to turn it tight. this problem maybe deapper. this is very bad for user. but when i chage my len to L lens, it have not appeared again. i feel the connection is more tight and fit for the ring on the body.

但唔係乜野都有 code ，有ｄ唔普通的全部都叫：　

ERR 99　＝　unknown error　　

即係唔知，連廠都要按個別情況分析過至答倒你。　　


總之，而家你枝鏡同個機身（個別性）唔夾八字，換過枝就可能冇事架喇！

after i recharged the battery (it was low with one sector remain...), and tried again it functioned normally tonite.....try with external flash and ok.....maybe its the contact of the battery.....cause last nite after i reinstall the lense on second shot the error code came up......then i remove the battey and clean the contact and right after that it functon properly.....the battery compartment is a bit flimsy for a camera of this caliper... so is the cf card compartment lid also, they just dont feel solid enough compare to the rest of the body.......

chansimon: i really love that sigma 17-70 cause the image is supersharp and the macro mode is very convenient.......for the price its amusing........and i have another sigma 18-200 OS for travel and rough use i will be very upset if the body is not compatible with the sigma lens

let see if the problem arise again i have a canon 50 1.8II then i will test it to see if this is related to third party lense issue or something else.......

I call up Sigma today also and they offer to test the lense for me at least to determine it is lense related or body related...... just pray that no need to visit any service center..................
