Got the D3 on order and hopefully will have it in this week. Just pick up a D300 from my dealer and it feel good as well. Try it out with my 70-200VR with the new AF and it is a lot faster than the D2H. Comparing the noise level with the D2H. Not much different up to ISO 800 but after that. It is way better than D2H. Cannot resist the temptation and brought it right after the test. It is a good backup body anyway.
One thing very funny, It has a lots of stock the D300. You don't need to wait for the stock.

Hi JFC,

Order it at the beginning of the month at Broadway Tuen Mun only. Put down 10K deposit and confirmed to have it by the end of this month. I also got the D300 there together with the order of the new 24-70.

It seems to me all the Japan made one is not yet arrive yet. The D300 is make in Thailand and was here since Nov 23.

I know the Tuen Mun Broadway very well. I have brought my Leica M8 there as well. They do deliver it on time.

Using the D300 for whole day today just to shoot everything and I can say this piece is worth the cost. A very good value and solid body. I am checking all the images with Apple Aperture this evening and will find out more.

Hi bikram,

I am sorry that I cannot give you any comments on the D200. I use F5 before then the first DSLR is D2H and then a D100 as backup. I can only compare between the D2H, D100 and D300. It is a lot better than D100 as you might know already. Compare to D2H, it is also way better since it is very old already. I like the new AF system since I shoot a lots of motions (Mainly Golf tour in Asia.) That is also why I am using the D2H all these years. D300 is not like the D2H. It is more towards a D2Xs and may be better. ( I cannot comment since I never use the D2Xs before.) The images I got yesterday is super. I really like the quality. It is close to my Leica M8 and sometime even better. (M8 have some issues but for Black and White. Nothing beat the M8.) I usually carry the D2H and the M8 with me. The D2H for motion and the M8 is good for cocktail and indoor.

Concerning about the Canon Mark III. I have nothing against it. The main issues are I am using Nikon all these years. All my lens and accessories is all Nikon. It is very expensive for me to switch to another systems. It might cost me over 200k to do it. To buy a new body is easy but to switch a system is very tough. Actually, no matter which system you are using. Remember its the people who are behind the camera more important than the equipments. The equipments just a tools. If it is a good system. It just make life easier.

Thanks for your comment. D3 is a bit expensive for me and I need to buy additonal len like 24-70mm len. I am now using D200 with 17-55mm DX len. For me, one thing I am not satisfy with D200 is the auto white balance which is not so accurate and high iSO noise. Others are acceptable. So I am not still sure whether it is worth to upgrade as it cost HK$7000 for upgrade after selling off D200 ( assuming sell it at HK$7000).

cy328，其實我e+考慮買nikon d3好，定係leica m8好。不過我一直都係nikon user，若果買m8，咁仲要投資一大筆去買鏡… 我一直都好欣賞leica m機出o黎gei畫質，一種獨有gei味道。不過唔知去到m8 digital，唔知仲保唔保持到…？聽你講d300 gei畫質已經接近、甚至有時仲好過m8，咁d3 gei畫質都好大機會比m8更好。事實上m8個spec其實都真係已經out out地，同leica確實未係好好掌握到出digital機，將來m9應該會好好多。以你用過leica m8同nikon d300 gei經驗，你覺得m8同d3二揀一，應該買邊部呢？

Hi bikram,

I have the same problem with the D2H on white balance. I solve it by using a black card to custom my white balance curve. The firmware on the D2H is not that accurate. The D300 High ISO is very good, I mean good. I need to use high ISO to shoot in some indoor sport activities and if I want anything that don't need a lot of after processing ( Noise reduction software , touch up etc.) I can only go up to ISO 800 and that is. However, I try ISO 3200 with the D300 and the picture quality still very good more than acceptable. To be honest, if you have the D200 already, I really think you should spent your money for the lens, since the lens can give you more options in photography than the body. I switch after using my D2H for 3 years and it do the job but its time to move on. My main body will be the D3, I brought the D300 only because it feel good on my hand when I test it and I am a little bit regret it since it cost me the 14-24mm. I might be better off buying the 14-24mm.

I brought the Leica M8 out of eagle and the name of Leica. I never use a Leica before and after using it for few months. This is what I find.

The Leica lens is super. the body suck. Lots of issues with the firmware, only better after the latest update. To be honest, with that kind of money, you will be better off getting a better DSLR body. like D3 or 1Ds Mark III. If I have my chance again. I will buy another D3 body with the money I spent on the Leica. One thing good about the Leica M8 is it is small compare to the D2H or D3 later. It is very good to use in packed area where you don't need long lens. Mind you, it is slow and need some time to get use to the range finder concept. However, once you get the hand of it. It is very good. remind me of the old day without AF time.

Thanks for your comment. I have decided to sell some of my lens and upgrade to D300 since I do not like the auto white balance of D200. I have tested D80. The color is even more better than D200. That's why I want to upgrade it...
