Obi-Wan,

I have tried this lens with 400D and find the IS is not so effective as my 70-200 IS may be it is too light. At close distance within 2m I can shot at 250mm with 1/15" but when the distance is far away say 13m need to shot at 1/60-1/80" may be my personal problem.

But anyway given this price is very good for travel, I prepare to buy one to go with the 17-55 IS for travel, although the 17-55 IS is not light may be consider the 18-55 IS as well.
