Have you notice that after you press the shutter button halfway with OS on, there is a high frequency sound out from the lense?

I just bought this lense awhile ago and I start to notice there is this annoying sound going on. Is there something wrong with the lense or is it suppose to be like that when the OS function is operating on this lense?

I don't have this lens but even Canon's IS lenses (which I have) have sound which is the operation of the OS parts, you can turn it off and there will be no sound.

I will consider it is normal.

The main purpose of buying the lense is because of the OS, so I really prefer not to turn it off anytime.

i have the same lense and its the sound of OS in operation. turn it off? then why buying the lense in the first place? its not so bad so learn to live with it. the lense is actually pretty good, the more i get to know it the more i realize it has very good potential.

Just wondering, if this lense were to function without OS, would the quality be just similar to a regular kit lense?

I just found out that the problem is probably on the auto focus gear unit which created the chattering sound. Although the OS is still working, but I rather not take the risk to ruin it further.

The worse thing is, I purposely bought this lense for my upcoming trip this weekend but the service staff told me that the repair will at least take 2 weeks. Sigh, this is super sad ~

I guess I have no choice now but to turn the OS off for the entire trip. I hope the quality without OS is still at least a bit better than using the kit lense.
