if the nikon set more vivd the color will more red but if close shooting the
white balance have to set flash


i have a problem many time is now i check nikon console
i want to shoot a people and a back ground
the back ground light is red or yellow
if i set auto white balance to shoot with a extenal flash
than the back ground will be ok but the face will become purple

if i set the white balance to flash the face will ok or 2~3%grey or blue but the back ground will purple or totally wrong color

what can i do
becasue if i shoot like that canon is not much problem

I think it is more meaningful to judge the camera's lens sharpness, resolution, processing speed than its tonal balance.

the main point is if use without the flash color is ok

but if use with flash than problem happan

who have better idea that if the back ground yellow or red and want to shoot people with flash have a better white balance

about the white balance value set to how much k is better ??

i think it is a complicated issue. i think it depends on the ISO you use, the amount of ambient light and the amount of flash light. you need to do trial and error, i suppose. but i am no expert in this.

for your canon pic, i don't think you can get this result if the flash light was very strong at that time.

i was check the background metter of light
the back ground is dark but little bit yellow or red

and than i use the fv to log the flash metter for the people face

normally i set the white balance to flash the face color will very good but the back ground color will very strang

i think there are some white balance value and balance the back ground color and the subject color when useing flash

I shoot with D70 and SB800 and I don't have the issue shooting the night scene portrait. red or yellow background lights retain their colour.

at Tsim Sha Tsui lately . I use a 50mm 1.4@ F2.8, WB set to Flash, ISO 400, I can basically handheld shoot with this set up, 1/60 to 1/80 of a sec, ETTL on SB800, FV lock, Slow sync and rear(second curtain) flash mode.
