Is there any difference between these DCs in terms of picture quality?
I have a set of SLR, so the gadgets won't be of much use.

This topic has been discussed numerous times. Search in this forum or http://www.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1010

If you are concerned about picture quality, choose G3. If not, choose the S45, which is very good but may be as good as the G3 in some cases as it has a slower lens. Pretty straight forward.
