Personally, I prefer Canon to Sony. Canon G3 's success is probably to be taken over by the new model G5. Sony is popular, but memory stick is expensive.

Canon got more experience in making excellent cameras.
G5 price is really very very attractive.

i will also choose G5 because of its one stop brighter lens.

picture quality wise, to my eyes, both of them are very outstanding. though some internet reviewer said V1 is marginally better, but that margin doesn't outweight the benefit of one stop aperture to me.

moreover G5 support RAW format, V1 didn't.

besides the marginally better picture quality, V1 is smaller, lighter and have excellent low-light / night shooting capability.

如果主要是擺定定影靚相 , 在相片質素和電池耐用方面 , 一定選G5.
如果主要是旅行和拍拖用 , 咁就選V1. G5雖然相片質素較靚 , 但咁重同size咁大 , (G5=2.5部V1) 周圍走會好辛苦. 再加上G5內置閃光燈有嚴重黑角出現在相片內, 都令人氣結 .
V1相片質素其實都好靚 , 但強要同G5比 , 就冇法. 至於RAW格式 , V1都有TIFF , RAW重要遂張相 set過兼要轉回其他格式 , 使用機會高否閣下要衡量下 !
二手巿場的出讓率方面, Sony P系不談 , 只談高級機的話 , Canon出讓率明顯較高 , 顯示Sony機主不會短時間出讓 , 一定有原因. 試問問Canon G3機主相同問題 , 看結果會否一樣 ?
不過 , V1的MS卡貴及要買多兩舊電池方面 , 就要考慮能否負擔得起.
一句 , 打算用一年後就換機 , G5 !
打算用幾年後才換機 , 又要方便旅行 , V1 !

G5 as more professional accessories, eg. flash support E-TTL. But for me, G3 is good enough since the only difference is the CCD.

www.dcresource.com recently carried out a side by side shoot out between V1 and G5. V1 did better than G5 in most of the sample pictures except the bridge photo. If this shoot out is a good indicator, I prefer V1 better than G5.

Keep in mind that Canon needs to buy its CCD from Sony, so Canon's got to charge the customer more to make a profit.

Sony's dead spot is always its stupid memory stick. Hope Sony is less greedy and sell its memory stick below compact flash.
