Choose between Sonv V-1 and Cannon G5 Post time: 7 月 18 日 |
|
|
Could you give me some advice since I'm now choosing to buy a new DC between Sony V-1 and Cannon G5.
I heard that the battery of V-1 is not long lasting, actually how many minutes it can be used for at one time?
For the quality of picture, is G5 is better than V-1?
For the cost, V-1 is cheaper than G5 and now Sony provide special offer to buy a 128mb x 2 Memory Stick (ie 256mb) with only $500.
Film taking will be and added advantage of Sony since there is no limit of the film duration.
Since i am just a normal user (not professional), is V-1 is a better choice?
Many thanks,

V1 if you have a tighter budget or you want the small size
Otherwise, G5 is a better choice as it has a bigger aperture (f2-3) than V1 (f2.8-4) and that it has RAW mode. It also has a ND filter which is useful to achieve longer exposures.

Thanks, Kevolution
Since I'm a new comer, may I ask
-what is RAW mode and the usage of it?
-what is ND filter ?
I will consider the quality of photos and degree of convience of using and portability first. Of course, judgment will also be based on whether the cost is worthy.
The list price of Cannon G5 is $5,980. It may costs around $300 for 128mb CF and around $500 to buy $500 for 256mb CF. That means the package price is around $6,480 (with 256mb).
While Sony V-1 costs $5,280 + $500 (for 128mb x 2) = $5,780.
Is the better quality of Cannon worthwhile to pay $700 more? (If the quality have so much difference, I will be willing to pay. Please advise.
Thank you very much.
(P.S. Since I'm poor in Chinese typing, I can only type English. If you find its more convenient in using Chinese, please feel free to do so.)

For general daily shots, carrying arround and shot only several tens shot a day buy V1
because it is lighter and smaller with good image quality
For photo enthusiatic (shutter bug) G5 RAW mode is important.
G5 can shoot many before the battery exhaust.
The G5 noise of ISO100 offset the larger aperture in my humble opinion..
I recommend go for V1
and
Happy shooting !

Thanks, Tam Dominic
If my main purpose of using the DC is for travel shooting (taking around 30-40 photos a day and with some film taking ), is V-1 still the first choice? Is the battery last long enough for the above usage within one day?
Thank you in advance.

Dear eddytsoi,
Which one would you recommend to buy?
And, where could get the best price for the 2 models?

Any recommendations for reliable retailers with best price for G5 and V-1? (Also, the CF and Memory stick?)

If you use film to take photos during trip, you maybe take 30-40 photos. Do you guarantee that you can only take 30-40 photos during a trip when using DC? I don't think so. You better think about this problem. This is the same case for me. Now, I'll take more than 100 photos for a trip per day.
