Consider to buy a second hand G3 but it costs around $3500. If I pay more, I can buy a S50. If you were me:

1 What will you choose?
2 Where can I buy a Hong Goods in a cheaper price for both models?

One more choice : Minota F100 @ around $1800 (second hand).

I am now using F100.. But I don't recommend to choose this one..

Got for Canon if the selection is between Canon and Minolta.

G3 should be better, but if you want to be more convenience, S50 or even S45 is also good, the photo quality won't got a BIG difference. Both are nice.

Select G3 as long as you want to play filter, tele/wide lens, external flash.. Otherwise, go for S50/S45.

Actually I want to play snap shots and for family use. I'm not a professional... I consider S50 / IXUS II / IXUS 400 caused I'm looking for some convenient DC for all my family members including teenager.

What will you choose among S50 / IXUS II / IXUS 400?

Haven't had a deep study about these auto mode DC (IXUS).

But if you go to dpreview to have a look, you might found both S50 and S400 are using larger CCD 1/1.8", from the same brand/same tech(should be), larger CCD should got better quality. So, between IXUS 400 and II, I will select IXUS 400.

Then between IXUS 400 and S50, not talking about the pixel. S50 got full manual control, if you like to have this function, go for S50. For snap shot, that require quick start up and shoot-to-shoot time, IXUS 400 is fastest among three.

It is limited by the memory card, not the DC. Now memory card can up to 256M, 512M, and even 1G.
