Which DC or DSLR you used? I am using Canon 350D, when using auto white balance, under indoor at night, photos usually become yellow. So, I will take a photo at a white paper, then set white balance to manual and also set using this photo (white paper) as a reference. So white balance will become acceptable.
As I know, some other kind of DC, if you want to set white balance manually, you just turn to the white balance setting, choose manual setting, and then take a shot to a white paper or card.
