Safe in Hong Kong? Post time: 12 月 3 日 |

Hi, I'm planning a visit to Hong Kong soon
is there some places that you would recommend to visit?
not only a tourist point of view, but also for good photos?
and is Hong Kong safe...
I mean carrying a SLR around the city, alot of people pay attention to you, especially want to take my camera...
because I want to take photos of the Victoria harbour at night from Tsim Sa Tsui, so it is safe there at night?
and also North of Hong Kong Island, like Central, Wan Chai, Causway Bay
I see alot of photo opprotunities at night, but is it safe there at night?
maybe I should take photos early in the night, and with lots of people
any suggestions to prevent theif...? share the experience
thank you

Hong Kong is not famous for its crime rate, and no place in the world is safe when that happens on you.
I myself had been carrying my SLR, and now a DSLR, going around for the last 30 years and don't have any burden on my shoulder except the camera's weight. A DSLR/SLR is so common in HK that it never attracts any special attention, not as much as a gold Rolex or diamond ring.
Travellers all over the world are the best targets for bad guys, as travellers carry more cash in average than local people do.
My suggestion is, in crowded places, pickpockets out-number the robbers, and thieves only steal. And if thieves are your concern, take a good hotel instead of a cheap one.
As for what places you should visit, a tour guide tells you more than I can.
Have a nice trip !
