Already have 580EX in hand
Is is worth buying 270ex just for the convenience? 580 is a bit too heavy to carry around

sounds not quite worth to do so.......
270 is just a bit better than the in-built flash with very limited angle tilting
If it could be a master like the ST-E2, than it's worth to buy so. Otherwise not worth at all.
If you like flash lit photos, you may buy 430 I as it is light weight than 580 and with okay power output and also can be a good slave as well.

I have both 580 and 270 and use 580 for serious photo and use 270 for casual use... go out for dinner or go to friend's home... it can have bounce flash and I think the effect is good but it can't use well when直倒…

don't waste money to buy 270...430 is better choice for lighter weight comparatively and it can be used as slave with your 580 too

I have 5D2, as there is no flash, I use a 380EX or a 420EX instead of a more expensive 270EX
