I bought this 50/1.8 as it is highly recommended by many friends. However, I found it is too narrow. On 25 Dec, I took my daughter & son to Tsing Yi mall to take photos with Hello Kitty and XO. Just 4 of them (2 kids + kitty + XO), I noted the lens is not wide enough. I am already standing at the edge of the stage (no more space for me to step further back), still cannot cover all 4 of them. I am very disappointed as I cannot take a good photo as my daughter loves hello kitty so much.

What lens should I go for? THANKS.

成日聽人老吹, 又 study 下就梗係死啦..
50mm f1.8 的確係好野來的
不過係 APS size 就唔係比你行街影相用啦...
換支 35mm 或者 24mm 啦.

之前我用50 f/1.8也有這情況(我是用aps-c機),後來買了35 f/2便解決了這問題,可以影wide一些,不用走太後,Ching可考慮一下
50 f/1.8用在FF便ok, very good

其實應該用反支kit鏡18-55映應該無問題，50.8係支好鏡，不過唔係好適合映4-5個人的大合照，佢賣點係映人像散景。

I am using 500D - APS model.
I think of using the kit lens (18-55), but it is not that sharp (sometimes blurred) when using indoors.

So you suggest 35mm/f2? Is it good?
I noted in price.com, there are also 20mm/f2.8, 24mm/f2.8, and 28mm/f1.8, so how to compare these 4 lens?

In terms of price/picture quality, which one should I go for?
All these 4 lens are better than the kit lens?

u need an FF e.g. 5D2 or 1Ds series.

照咁睇你0的鏡頭完全無問題，就算你買多幾多支鏡都無用，因你完全未掌握攝影技巧，唔sharp，有可能係你手震，或低光慢快門，建議唔好再買鏡，買書或上網了解多點攝影技巧。

你平時用番枝18-55, 跟住留意下自已最常用中間邊個range, 再買番近似range的定焦或wide小小試試
wide左可以chop相.吾夠wide就無計.

買定焦影合照好似唔多適合你, 不如買d高質數嘅zoom lens 啦, 例如17-55mm f2.8 IS USM, 我諗你唔會話唔滿意唔sharp掛! 上面d ching講得好啱, 上網了解多點攝影技巧先啱你.

munce, 50 1.8 is a really worth buy lens but you just can't utilize it well....
you were using the wrong tools for the wrong subject.......

this lens in aps-c camera is very good for single person portrait or 2-3 person packed together and also very very good for cats

You can first make good use of your 18-55 to find out which range you are looking for......then, you can buy a cheap prime to get beautiful photos

35 f2 is a good lens, I just bought and enjoy it.
Besides canon 20mm/f2.8, 24mm/f2.8, and 28mm/f1.8
There are also sigma 20, 24, 28 all F1.8
