Hello brothers and sisters,

I am planning to buy a wide angle lens and a tele lens, not necessary to be Canon (as it is expensive like "small white" + it is EF-S, not EF). One day in future I may upgrade from APS-C to FF, so better not buy EF-S lens.

Please rank Sigma, Tokina and Tamron wide angle lens as well as tele lens. Which one do you think is more reliable, can shoot more sharp pictures?

And please provide which particular lens.

2.tele 又影咩多?人像?運動?打雀?打蝶?....

I plan to buy a wide angle for portraits (人+景), both daytime and night time.

I plan to buy a tele for taking graduation photos of my daughter (as my seat may be far from the stage). So must be sharp indoors.

I have got 500D kit lens (18-55) and the 50.8 (not wide enough in many situations).

Initially I consider Canon lens only as many experts here advise not to use other non-Canon lens. But if quality differs just a little bit and the price is much cheaper, then I will consider Tamron, Tokina and Sigma lens. But I never use them before, so totally no idea. Is Tamron better in wide angle, or tele or both? Or Sigma or Tokina is better? I have no idea.


Budget is under 10K for 2 lens. Thanks.

I am not satisfied with the kit lens because I feel the photos are not sharp, especially indoors. I already maximize the aperture and use a high ISO.

Sometimes the photos look OK in the 500D 3" screen. But when enlarged, like when viewing in my computer, the photos seem a bit blurred. Shutter already use (as experts advised) 1/60 or faster.

I am not satisifed with the 50.8 as I can't take a portrait with 3 or more persons. Angle very narrow. Also sometimes it takes a long time to focus.

我會覺得人+景,canon 17-40 f4會比較好d,canon 16-35會更正,但貴~~仲有枝canon17-55 f2.8都ok的,由其夜景時,佢的f2.8光圈,不過呢枝係efs。
ultrawide影齋就壯闊好多,例如canon efs10-22, tokina 11-16 f2.8,ultrawide特點,誇張前景,壓縮遠景,影人+景有另一種感覺,不過留意ultrawide影人,如果係邊位,小心變形。
budget有限又想試玩ultrawide,tokina 12-24 f4 係幾好的選擇,雖然及唔上上述果d,但勝在價錢平,pq唔差。

呢個情況就一定係室內了,canon 白鏡群係你的選擇, 小白,小小白,當然f2.8應該係你首選,因為室內。但要就budget,可能小小白non is岩你d。無is又唔知你岩唔岩你。


總結:你budget 10k,唔可能wide and tele都一步到位,要取捨了。
捨長取短---17-40 + 小小白non is
捨短取長---tokina 12-24 + 小小白 is (二手約2500+7500)

18-55 kit, 如果你唔滿意,想搵枝鏡取代,tamron a16 17-50 f2.8 都ok的,2千幾蚊,但pq當然及唔上canon 17-40L啦。長遠黎講,你對pq有要求的話,半年度你就會唔滿意了~~~

50.8, 覺得唔夠wide,可以諗諗枝35 f2 又係2千幾蚊,定焦的pq,包你無投訴~~~

Some ching has suggested 35 f2 to me before. But I am not sure whether it is more or less similar to 50.8. I know there is another prime lens 28 f1.8 with USM. Which one should be a better choice?

So you mean after some time I will not be satisfied with pq of Tamron, Sigma and Tokina lens? The difference between these lens with Canon lens are that apparent?

Regarding Tamron A16, I noted there is a new one with IS called B005, any idea on this lens?

35 F2 & 28 F1.8 純粹講wide,咁一定28mm wide d,不過都係差一步的距離,睇你影相習慣啦,7mm & 0.5光圈換取$1500 difference,比我就揀35f2囉~~~

b005 vs a16 差個is,差$1600,17-50mm,無is都唔大影響,正如你講都用1/60什至更快的快門啦。

pq問題---同性能的鏡,絕大部份比較到底,最靚成像都係canon原廠鏡,同埋原廠鏡可以有暗角修正。而副廠點打到尾都係用價格平同原廠鬥,therefore如果對pq係有要求的話,用副廠都係貪平d抵玩d,慢慢地budget鬆動時,又會比較下原廠鏡。一比較的話,手頭枝副廠就實輸~~~~

補充:35f2 & 28 f1.8 你可以上去canon showroom試下,睇下邊個range方便你一d。每個人影相風格,要求都唔同,最好都係親身試下~~

With kit lens + 50.8, will it be little bit duplicate or wasting money to buy in another prime lens 30 f/2? Or I should sell my kit lens and 50.8?

The kit lens is not that sharp, therefore I really want to get a replacement. If you suggest not to go for other lens, then I may focus in the Canon lens. I checked in price.com for the 3 lens you suggested above (canon 17-40 f4, canon 16-35, canon17-55 f2.8). Oh my God, they are ALL so expensive!

So in your opinion, IS is not that important?

A friend of mine who is also a Canon fans reminded my IS is a must in tele lens, is that true? Why IS is more important in tele?

Another question - these 3 lens and 小白 / 小小白 and 30 f/2 - they come with the lens hood or have to buy separately? Thanks.

Where to buy lens is the best? Man Shing / Wing Shing in Mong kok or any other suggestions?

我諗你要了解左安全快門先,簡單講就係1/焦距,即係話如用50mm影,安全快門就係1/50,當然呢個唔係絕對值,因人而異亦因環境焦距有所不同,佐安全快門係一個好好的參考值。但問題黎了,如1/50是安全快門,咁如果枝鏡有2級防震,係唔係1/13都得?咁又唔係喎,當快門太慢時,人唔陣主體都會郁啦,咁情況就會係有is都同無一樣,因為你都係用1/50或以上。所以廣角-標準焦距10-70,我個人覺得有無is唔係首要考慮(天生嚴重手震之人除外)。
70以上就唔同咁講了,當你用緊200mm時安全快門係1/200,有is 2級,即係1/50都可以。數係咁計,tele仲有好多變數的。所以長鏡is我覺得係must。

therefore我會建議canon 35 f2 +小小白is, both你都係要留枝kit鏡。
我可以講,呢2枝你係可以用到你唔玩canon為止(除左upgrade上定焦Lor小白is)

I noted there is USM in 28 f/1.8 but not in 35 f/2.
I never use USM before, is it really faster / more accurate for auto-focus?
