Hi ching,

I plan to buy either 1 of the following lens this month and a small small white later this year.

17-40 L
24 - 105 L

I am using 500D, pls advise which one suits me better. If I choose 17-40, then I will not have 41-69 after I buy small small white, will that be an issue?

On the other hand, if I choose 24-105, then I will not have 17-23. Also the 70-105 range will it be duplicated (wasting money)?

I mainly take photos of my kids and sometimes group photos.

Then I also plan to buy an external flash this month (week). Pls advise whether 430 or 580 (I never use external flash before). What's the main difference (apart from price)? Quality/price --> which one is better?
And do I need to buy anything extra (accessories) for using the external flash?

500D may choose EFS 10-22 + EFS 18-55IS or sigma 18-50/2.8 or tamron A16 + EFS 55-250IS
but if u have L lens 情意結，u may buy 17-40/4 + 50/1.8 + 70-200/4

I won't consider those EFS lenses as I may upgrade to FF one day.

i think, it depends on situration...

If just 17-40 and 70-200, it's just a matter of step forth or step back. In some occasion if you can't move, that may be a problem when u want the object be taken at a specific size on photo. 50.8 could fill in this gap.

For flash,I have a 580EX II.The reason to choose it because it's top of the line and I can afford it,so I don't need to upgrade again.
