you can use 17-35 f/2.8, I just buy it. Very nice picture.

but the 17-35 f2.8 becomes around 25-55mm on the D40x??

I agree with stevemobile, as I am looking at that sigma too, if you want auto focus on your D40x, the sigma 10-20mm is the only alternative.

I tried it on my D40 and it feels very good and quite balance.
