new DSLR user should go for which one? I used a Minolta SLR long time ago and then switched to a DC after starting a family. Have tried my brother-i-law's Canon 5D and 30D(?) and also a friend's D80 b4, love the quality of pic fro mboth system. As people always say that Canon is good for protraits while Nikon is good for landscape, my interest is more on the latter, thus would go for the latter.

On D80 and D90, is the technology on D80 dated? And can any C-hing tell me if the movie function on D90 useful?

I think what you meant was that the 5d is better for landscape and the d3 is better for action/sports due to its speed.

Depending on exactly how long ago it was when you were still shooting with your minolta, you should consider the Sony as well, since you might be able to carry on using some of your old lenses.

a300 would be a good one.

If he does not know the differnece between D80 or D90, then he must be a biginner. 18-200mm, I think, is very situable to him. I think, to give advice, we must consider the user. Otherwise, all we know, basically it's ture, the more expensive the more qualtiy. ^_^
