I am new to this forum, want to ask you guys some great comments. Need to buy a flash, just don't know which one is good for me, sb600 or sb 900. Mainly need is: soft light on face when is not enough. Thanks to all.

You dont know your requirements wor. What range do you need? Do you need to use remote lightings ??? Find out your requirements, then goto Nikon's official site to compare the two lights.

Nikon's website has this direct compare function. How come so few people know about it?

range is mostly is 24 - 70. I don't need remote lightings
I know I am a basic user, but worry, sb 600 is not good enough.

Consider the following factors:
1. budget, the price difference is a lot.
2. weight and size - sb900 is heavy and sizable
3. your body. I will suggest if you use small DSLR like D40, D40x, etc, use sb600. On the other hand, if yours is D3X, then .................
4. your personality

You said, that mainly need is: soft light on face when is not enough. Did you mean that under sunlight. If yes, sb600 and sb900, no material difference if you camera does not support FP High Speed sync.

Based on your requirements listed, SB600 is good enuf already. In fact more than enuf.

If you have more to spend and dont mind the extra functions then SB900 lor. (but who knows if you will utilize them. Men are very cautious on what they get, we always "prepare in advanced" but in fact, I would say we are just complicating things and being diverted)

What you NEED and what you WANT is always a tough question, isn't it ;)

1. if you are Leisure Photographer, buy SB600, just like me, I co-work it with Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8

2. if you are professional, professional means you need it for your career, then, you already buy SB900, no need to ask again.
