Although D80+zoom such as those with f2.8 (e.g. the cheap cheap one from Sigma) can be used to take indoor sport, it is rather difficult for a $8000 zoom can do...... because you need
(1) long telephoto lens (SHOULD be a zoom as pointed out by lambertnh
(2) large aperture
(3) VR or IS, this can't be fulfil with your 8K hkd

Most sport photographers at least use a CANON 1DMark2/3+愛死小白 (don't blame me, I am also a Nikon friend), I am not a sport photographer, so can't comment much on other combinations.

It depends on the lighting. If indoor, you really need large aperature with high ISO because you need fast shutter speed to freeze the action. Since you would use fast shutter speed, VR may not be very important.

In summary, you need fast focusing speed, large aperature and high ISO. I suppose you would need 1/200 to 1/500s.

Other c hings may correct me if I am wrong.

I suggest that before buying any new lens, you bring your existing equipment to a match to see whether you are able to get the fast enough shutter speed. If the light is too dim, you will have difficulty even if you get a new lens.

留意運動員投籃一刻，當他到達高點再回到地面，在最高點有一刻可用較慢快門捕捉其動態，相對身傍其他運動員會有較大動作，形成對比，可會有趣。

anyone can use any lens for any purposes, but

for capturing a reasonable details of the players, u must very close to the player, which is not allowed in proper basketball game.

of course you may argue that you just want to take the whole of the 籃球場. As far as I know, sport photographers have more telephoto lens than a fish.

Also most photos related to 籃球賽 shows details of the players more than the 籃球場.

you can try search 籃球賽 in google images, many many photos show players filling the frame of the photo
