I think by asking about 16-50... he means the Tokina AT-X 165 PRO DX (AF 16-50mm f/2.8). There really isn't a better between the two, since they are of different range and different aperture size for totally different shotting situation.

IMO, range of 16-50 is not quite enough for a walk-around lens. If you already have da kit lens, and looking for a more solid and sharper lens, try 16-85, or even 18-70.
