I am a new user to DSLR.
I was cleaning the viewfinder of D700(I borrowed from my friend) last week. Then I realise that there is some dust behind the blind, so I opened the blind and use lens cleaner to clean the dust. However, no matter how hard I try to clean it, some stain of lens cleaner still remain. So I ask another friend and he warned me that it is the prism which I should not wipe it with anything as I may leave stretch the prism.>.< so what should I do now? Can anyone give me any advice? Will the stain sticked on the prism permanently if I don't clear it now?

What "blind" are you talking about??? Are you talking about the metal blind after you take out the circle viewfinder piece?

Afterall, these materials are made out of glass and you won't scratch it too easily. Whatever it is, just dont force it through while you clean it and make sure your cleaning tools are free from dirt and tiny gravels. Don't be too concerned about what your friend said.

Maybe you used too much lens cleaner and it is leaving "water marks" now?

Yes! I mean the glass(which is the prism) after the blind. So how to clean those 'water marks' then (as the space is so tiny that not even my finger can clean it, especially the edges of the prism). Thanks

Do you have one of these lens pens?

Yes, I do have one. But it is too big for using it on the prism.

Well, I would normally use cotton buds in this case.

Just use a tiny drop of water to keep the bud moist and clean the glass (btw I doubt that's the prism itself but anyway).

I phoned nikon and asked them what I can do. They said that I should to bring the camera to the CS and ask the technicians there and do not do anything myself as they said I may leave stretch in my process of cleaning. They even said that they may need to dissemble the camera to take out the prism and clean it (which means I have to pay for cleaning even withn warranty).

P.S. Nikon said the glass behind the metal blind is the prism itself.
