It is a CPU lens which can be used in D300S. However, if you have selected "aperture" setting in your camera, live view cannot be used. You must first select "sub-command dial" setting in your camera. Then set the aperture ring at minimum aperture. You can then use the live view.

If you use D lenses or old Nikon AF lenses, you will not be able to use live view if you have selected "aperture" setting in your camera. You must first select "sub-command dial" setting in your camera, and set the aperture ring at minimum aperture before you can use the live view.

However, if you use manual focus lenses, you can use live view even if you have selected "aperture" setting in your camera.

I have experienced similar "live view" problems with my Nikon AF lenses before.

Unfortunately, the Nikon camera operation manual does not mention such limitations in the "live view" pages clearly.

Finally, I overcame the problems by trial and error.
