They are very different. I assume you have a DX camera.

First of all, S18-50mm f2.8 will be your general lens, since it will give you a little wide angle and the start of the tele-range. It is quite fast too.

N24-85mm on a DX, you will get a lens with no wide angle, but you have a good end (around 130mm) for portraits.

If it is your first lens, I would go for the S18-50mm.
