I checked with Tak Fook Fortress on Tuesday:

Canon 50D + 18-200 Kit lens $13xxx

Nikon D90 + 18-200 $12,xxx

I've found that the NIkon one is definitely lighter and look more modern, but the pic color of Canon appears to be more natural. The sales also mentioned that the Nikon is made in Thailand while the Canon is made in Japan.

Which one do you prefer?

when you used to the nikon, u will prefer nikon.
and usually ppls here will tell u to get the nikon. :)
no absolute answer for your question, they both are nice camera.
made in thailand or japan isn't a main problem now, only made you feel not quite happy thats all.
by the way, d90 has movie function, perhaps its more interesting......

Most ask for $13580 for Canon 50D
and $12750 for D90 + 18-200

depends on what you need.

Nikon can take pictures repeatedly on the same one up to 3 times.

NIkon has two dials.

Canon is softer and higher pixel!

What is the advantage of having 2 dials?

I have pretty much decided on getting the D90 but now can't quite decide on whether I should get the kit lens 18-105, 18-200 or 70-300VR. I used to take scenery and sometimes stage performance of my kids, thus a reasonably long-range lens is preferred.

Any suggestions?

Well, depends on what is "natural" to you. Try using different cameras to take the same object under same condition and you might have a different conclusion.
