有無ching 開盡f1.4對正人面時影出嚟人面會blur (我知因為f1.4時個DOF好似紙禁薄,當然收到f2會sharp 番la), 想問下呢個情況下有無方法可以用到f1.4而人面又sharp,對焦點應該落咩位置?

已有85.4D既ching會唔會換85.4G,請講理由

Q1: You are right, the plane of focus is thin like paper. The ways I use to reduce out-of-focus image are:
- Never half-focus and re-compose the picture
- Always use one of the 51 focus point to focus the part I want to be sharp
- For portrait, 99.9% of the time have the focus on the eye nearest to the camera
- Fast enough shutter speed, for D3s is no big issue here, you can push the ISO way up
- The person needs to be still

Q2: Is way too early to say Yes or No now, I will wait a bit and see some serious reviews on the lens first, and then if possible try it on and see whether I like the feel of the new lens. But I think at this very moment, I will NOT buy it yet, because the current 85.4 is already a great lens, gives me amazing results, I don't see the reason to pay double (or even more) to change to a lens which probably can't give 2 times better image quality. Besides, I enjoy the old lens design, a very "raw" and "true" feel.

i concur, the nikon new lenses are too expensive nowadays, except if they give us tremendous improvements in quality, i'll prefer to stick to the old lenses

To Q2, if you had have 85.4D, you shall not be harry to buy the G len. Although the G is equiped of nano coating and APS, other things are equal, I thought it is not worthy of paying USD1700.00 to buy. I would rather buy pay the same price for len 24.4G APS.

All Chings gave excellent answers. Just want to add:

Q1. I had the same experience. The problem get worse when shooting in door. DOF is one thing and the ight is another. I was going to take my D700 and N85.4 to Nikon CS to cal but didn't. The key is light and shutter speed. For indoor, very often I push up ISO to get fast shutter speed, or use a flash. I like to use "point focus" too, towards the nearer eye.

Q2. No. In fact, I have been thinking to buy 85.4D for long but did not because I already have a S50.4 which is very close in terms of focal length and PQ. The release of 85.4G triggered me to rush to buy 85.4D because Nikon will soon stop production of it.

The major reason I won't consider 85.4G is that it doesn't have VR. If it has, my decision could be different. It is just too close to 85.4D if there is no VR. VR will help shooting in low light conditions. I can easily hand hold my LB6 to take good and sharp pictures at night because of VR.
