This is why my camera gear bag NEVER leave me.

Even in the airport security. I will making sure my eye never leave the bag even when it goes on the x-ray machine.

When I am onboard, the bag always sit underneath the space in front of my leg. I know another photog, he left his gear bag on the overhead compartment. He feel asleep and someone actually steal his gears ...

To sum up. My gears is part of my body and they NEVER leave me. Never let anyone unknown handle my gear bag.

Even I go to Japan I will watch my bag very carefully- not only DSLR one but also the one with passport+tickets+cash.

BTW, Who can expect when will accident come? We can only be careful in any moments.

When one is traveling, one has to be extra careful with the luggage no matter where you are going. In particular, if you are going to fly on domestic flights in N.America, anyone can walk into the luggage claim area without being checked. The luggage claim areas in typical N.American domestic terminals (even the one's located in international airports) have very low security - anyone can go into the claim area, and usually just a couple of security guards checking luggage tags on the way out and it is very easy to get around them when busy. If you flying to many SE Asian countries, it is commonly known that expensive items such as laptop computers would mysteriously disappeared from checked in luggage. That is why I always carry my camera equipment and netbook (they may not be expensive to you but quite tempting to others) in my backpack camera bag. I rather carry an extra light weight camera bag for day to day use after reaching the destination.

That is why it is so important to keep important documents etc. close to yourself and don't leave luggage carrying expensive items lying around.

Happened to us too. The handle of the check-in luggage was broken off before it was placed on the plane. All identifying tags were lost and the airline couldn't trace it for a couple of days. It was the day before we left our destination the airline could find the luggage which was still sitting in the terminal loading area. They identified our luggage by the color and a security sticker left over from our previous trip. They promised to deliver the luggage to us the night before we left but it wasn't there until 6 in the morning we were leaving. It was only after our repeated calls to the lost center (we woke up every few hours to call). It was our only piece of luggage and we had to buy everything new (winter clothing in NY) for the few days we stayed there. Insurance paid for most of the purchases. Well, it was nice to have someone pay for some new clothing and personal care products, but the stress of chasing after the airlines to locate the luggage (my wife had some clothing with sentimental values in the lost luggage) wasn't worth it. To add to the pain and stress, the only time we could get through to the lost center was like 5 in the morning which meant we had to get up early everyday to call them.

就係睇咗呢個post, 我最近去台灣都不再把相機背囊放在上格了.... 因最近我發過兩次夢, 都係在飛機中或船中唔見咗背囊, 所以唔安心, 都係"大地在腳下"好啲

另外, 我又想分享吓, 我去台灣花博期間, 一行有4人, 我和另一個友人去買嘢食, 回來後竟有個陌生男人坐在我另一同行的人身邊, 如果你唔知, 以為佢地同我地一group tim....於是我便問, 做乜呢個人坐埋來, 佢都唔走喎, 原來....佢可能看中了我放在枱上的d7000, 但我個friend一直好alert, 幫我"橋"住條相機繩幾個圈在手臂內的....到有人話擺好部相機先食嘢啦, 佢先行開咗. 我完全懷疑佢係想睇你地幾時唔留神就搶走佢囉, 而佢個look亦非常遊客, 結論就係, 賊仔係冇樣睇的, 貴重嘢一定要跟身

Toronto Peason機埸真係好廢架, 唔見我兩次行李, 第一次去paris旅行, 1st day 就得返個back-pack. 第二次去NY公幹, 箱sample又唔見~

第二次唔見行李皆因被"照肺", 美國國土安全部(海關+入境事務)查由加拿大飛去美國既旅客都係响加拿大機場查(過哂界~), 係Toronto機場d國土安全部人員特別濕9(比較由HK直航去NY, 或Vancouver機場d國土安全部人員), 有個PK印度佬點我去照肺. 個零鐘就上機, P佢個K佢要我等三個幾鐘先叫我入房, 乜機都飛走la~ airline安排到機位俾我趕去NY, 但冇安排我件行李一齊上機, 正PK~

The attitudes of the US Customs/Immigration officiers stationed in Toronto were the worst I have ever seen. Bunch of arrogant SOB's.
