i am using D50. like for travel use. like taking view, marco, and people, some times tele object like duck.

i been looking most web site of compare them.

sigma seem better in tele and more clear and shape. but blend in wide(18mm).

Tamron seem better in wide, but not as clear in tele.....

super diffcult choose for me..... pls expert do help .
specially use that have this lens.
which one marco better??? i dotn mind the price difference.

I am not using any D-SLR, but I am sure that the quality of the lens will degrade as the range increases. Have a think before you really need such a lens. If you are using one lens to go around the world, you'd better change back to fuji S9500, it got the same range as your 18-200 x 1.5 One of the joy of using D-SLR is have to change lens. Really, have a think.

Tamron got a lens 18-200 (A14)
but it's quite expensive.

18 or 28 to 200 suppose to be beginner lens
They will just give about the same quality as mid-grade DC.
sigma 18-200 will blend a lot in wide between 18~2x(maybe3x)
and small F(6.3) in 200mm.
when you look at the MTF of sigma you will see you need much smaller F(maybe 11 or more) in 200mm.
I can say Tamron 28~200 is just about the same quality.
Differences are Tamron's will give better colour then Sigma's,
and Tamron's is not as detail as Sigma outside the middle
Nikkor 28-200 of cuz is better than tamron's and sigma's but it's more expensive.

If you're learning how to use dslr.I suggest you to try the d70(s) kit lens first.
If you have to buy 1 of this 3, I suggest buying 2nd hand tamron, since it will not last long on your hand and it's cheapest price.

If you really need the range between wide and tele.
buy 2 or 3 lens.
ideally nikkor 17-55/ 24-120/ 28-70 + 70-200vr
or nikkor 12-24 + 17-55/ 24-120/ 28-70 + 70-200vr

I am seraching for the same lens as you do, how's ur Sigma lens? Is it upto ur expectation? How's the pics? And how much is that? Thz!

coolman, you cant expect that 3 lens could do much with the price they worth.

for marco beginner
if you want something like flower which dont keep moving, get a intergrated marco lens is good enough.
if you want bugs, get sigma 150mm first and learn with it, but it's expensive.


another tips for you.

the best lens must be the fixed angle lens(which cannot zoom)
like the best 人像鏡 85mm 1.4 ( I believe it's the best one in this area )
but they are not user friendly, user need to walk with legs to zoom.
they give perfect quality and nothing else.

the better lens are specified in some area(wide, mid, tele, marco) like 12-24, 17-55 70-200
they give perfect quality also, and they are user friendly.
but it is a nightmare when I look at their price.

than the cheaper version of the expensive lens.
like 18-55 18-70 18-35
they also give quality (and *quite* handy) which match their price, but it's still a big gap between the expensive one.
after you tried both 17-55 and 18-55
you will know what am I talking.

finally the beginner lens.
they cover wide mid and tele 3 range.(maybe marco(shortest focus length) too)
therefore they use much lens inside the case.
and with low price the lens quailty is worrying.
when you zoom to max (200mm) the 18mm lens are still inside and working, therefore the image quality is terriflying.
when you zoom to min (18mm) the tele lens are working, will it blend?
and even ED/APO/LD lens are included in the lens, I don't think it will really work much.

and the sigma 18-200 only around 2800.
so i brought it online. waiting it to ship!

nikon 18-200vr could come in handy and give reasonable quality

People guess its virgin price should be much expensive than 24-120vr.
Then people think 18200 is the better choice than 24120.
(so you can see many 2nd-hand 24-120vr around, the owners want to sell it when they think it still worth something.)

in fact, if the price is more than 5000, I will just choose 80-200 right the way.
if the price is near 8000, I will choose 70-200vr.
Nikon isn't that stupid which can't see this, so they stop offering 80-200.(I guess)

anyway, 18-200 is never an option for me.



to perlee:
150 sigma is good in both bugs and flower.
and it got reasonable price.
you cannot shot a bug with 60mm, it jump or fly away when you put the huge lens and camera near it.
except a dead bug which won't be scared and run/fly/jump away.

nikon 105 $38xx
sigma 150 $39xx

sigma 150 got HSM, nikon 2 didnt got AF-S(SWM)
therefore focus speed of sigma is faster.
the focus speed is quite a need when you shoot a dragonfly or a flying butterfly.

but if you don't shoot bugs, just something like flowers, you can buy a intergrated lens since you can use BIG F for good quality with cheaper price lens.

I dont shoot any bugs.. sigma 70 300 apo dg is good enough for my marco area.. although it need some after-effect in computer.
but it only costs 1xxx. sometime with it's weight, it come in handy.
