Actually, you are using the "sweet spot" of the FF lens if you are using the crop sensor camera. So it would not be a waste. However, please do not compare the 24-70 to 28-135 lens. They are from different price range and both are FF lens.

In my opinion the 28-135 is a very good walking lens for travelling with one lens.

hi Andrew, I dont buy that L is everything BS to begin with =p
just wondering, lets forget about wide open aperture sharpness, I never like short dof much, I use 8 and 11 mostly when i shoot my stuff.

how is the color/contrast of this 28-135 comparing to, lets say a 24-105L.

I am not too picky about color, but I found that even the kit lense gives me enough color and contrast which a tamron 18-50 F/2.8 can't give. Sharpness the tamron can outrun the others by 10miles even the 17-55 efs. I just love the color/contrast of canon lenses unlike those yellowish tint from tamron or sigma.

I've also tried a lot of Temron and Sigma lens in the pass and sold them all. Now I mainly stick to canon lens. However, when it comes to colour, it is my opinion that the L lens is very good. I've used 24-70, 17-40, 70-200 and they all have very good color.

In comparing between the 28-135 & 24-105, both are FF lens and I think the 24-105 is better considering the color. However, if it wasn't for the new price (around $7600 or 6600??!) it would not be a fair comparison. Furthermore, the IS on the 28-135 is a first generation IS as compare to the latest IS on the 24-105.

Right now the price for the 28-135 is around 3400 compare to 7600 for the 24-105, then you really have the think about the usability of both lens considering a 1.6x crop factor. I myself use a 5D and would perfer the 24-015 if I have the money. Sharpness wise, if both are at F8, the L lens is only sightly sharper.

Oh, remember to always use a PL for all outdoor lens. The subtle change of shading in color can be seen by using a PL. As for the brand, I really think B+W is too expensive. But that all depend on how long to plan to keep the lens. Kenko Pro 1 seems to be a good deal for the money.

the 28-135 might not be that worse then for less than half the price(before drop to be fair). I use films and aps-c's now. So wanna look into a reasonable standard range but I know i wont use it much.

Totally agreed with your experience. I like to stick with Canon's now too, after I tried two tamron's, one Sigma and one Tokina. I had them all sold. Bought a 2nd hand 17mm tokina for black and white snap shots mostly. They are good lens, sharp as hell, but just dont have that color contrast somehow. I love my kit lens alot color'wise. Afterall, ppl here believe in Canon. So is the 2nd hand shops.

And will try the kenko pro1 soon. Do you really always have it on outdoors? Is it because hk is hazy + smoggy all time? I found CA is alot more obvious in digital cameras even using the same lens.

To be honest, I always use a PL, even indoor unless its too dark. Especially if there are a lot of light source. I just like to have a truer "lights" into the CMOS. As for the smog in HK, I tend to leave my camera at home more often and leave my photo taking when on trips to other countries. Unless my subject is a closeup.

Yeah true true. Thanks Andrew. HK's a bit difficult to get some clearer things unless closer. Man I haven't tried the PL but definitely will get myself one soon!!

And there is a difference between the cheap PLs and the expensive PLs. When but that would have to depend on your likings.

i was suggested to buy 28-135 for the time being. since i'm a beginner, getting an expensive lens is kinda wasted, i think. of course, i always wanted a f/2.8...that's why i had these 2 lens comparing.
