I think it would be abit hard for a compact camera to have such a bokeh, because the aperture is just not large enough to produce such bokeh.

The other problem I heard from other users is that compact cameras have is the distance between the lens and then light sensor, be it CCD or CMOS, and that the short distance along with the small aperture make it hard for bokeh to form.

If you want a compact camera that can have good bokeh, I would suggest the following:

canon G8/9,
Ricoh Caplio GR Digital II
Nikon Coolpix P5100

Mind that these are higher price range in comparason to the compact DC's

I heard that if you zoom furthest on you current NV20( i guess you have it), or any compact camera, and try to focus on your object, with a distance between it and the background, you can perfrom some bokeh that way. I haven' ttry myself, but I guess trying won't hurt.
