If money is not a big problem, try EF 24 - 105 L, suitable for landscape to potrait. Otherwise, state with your kit lens.

24-105, 我都有唸過, 我擔心x 1.6之後會唔夠wide.

Of course, its not wide enough if you are targetting a wider view, and so better stick with the kit lens, or buy one more (EF-S 10 - 22, or Tokina 12 - 24). As I don't have such requirement up till now, so my combination is EF 24 - 105 F4 & EF 70 - 200 F2.8.

i am using 24-105 and 10-22mm. both are excellent!!.they are worth, go try. especailly the 10-22mm the wide angle is good and not much dark spot at corners.

If want to take good photographs of all kinds, you should have different kinds of lenses. Then you should change lens from time to time. Quality OR Convenience? It's your choice.

Of course different lens serve different purposes. The 10-22 is really good for wide and quality of corners are maintained quite good, also light weight and internal-focus - excellent! (personal comments). 24-105 is more for generic use and around 170mm max use in aps-c. it is quite, fast-focus but slightly heavy if u are traveling (i carried for a week for my hoiliday). in general both are worthable lens and actually their second hand value is quite good.

Yes it's EFS mount, but you're using a 40D, so it's of no issue. When you decide to upgrade to full frame, then sell the lens and get the 16-35 or 24-70.
