depends on size of place.
Normally, I would like to use 20-35(or 50) (full frame).
the distance let you close to the people, communications with your objects are important. at least, you should let people know you're taking picture with who.

depends on ambient lighting of the place, and it is not simple.
When taking pictures indoor, the aperture set with the flash, and the shutter speed set with the ambient; the most important is you're using auto/manual flash, and never TTL! so you can control "背景入多D"
The camera build-in meter would tell you the ambience reading in most of the cases; please refer to your manual. I always suggest 1/4 to 1/15s, for group photos or important moments, 1/15 would prevent hand shaking.
