Try to answer your ambiguous question:
Exposure Compensation is an "computer program routine" to adjust the settings of aperture and/or shutter speed.
e.g. the correct exposure of a composition is 1/125sec, f5.6 (which is the same as 1/250 sec, f4, 1/60 sec, f8, etc., again, we are talking about exposure here, and of course 1/250 sec is better to catch a moving object than 1/60sec, and f8 is more depth of field than f4))
For 1/125S, f5.6, if you set the Exposure Compensation to "-" direction, the camera will choose a small aperture (f8, f11, etc.) to make the picture darker, or make the shutter speed faster (1/250, 1/500). When set to "+" direction, a bigger aperture (f4, f2.8) or slower shutter speed (1/60, 1/30) will be chosen to make a brighter picture.
There are two major variables in photography - aperture, which is how big the opening is, and shutter speed, how long does the opening open then close.
