I'm invited to take photos for friends in a wedding ceremony and in a graduation ceremony. Do you have any tips or tricks in choosing the equipment and catching important scenes?

External flash, yes. Batteries, yes. Memory cards, yes. What about choosing lenses? And what tricks and traps I have to pay attention to?

要有廣角
因為好多時都要影團體相
要夠廣角影到四五個人一排先算ok
建議用大圈的鏡
但係要收光圈拍
因為會比較銳利
同埋可以有較長的景深
要注意白平衡啦
尤其係如果係中國式的酒樓
如果唔係會好黃~

如果影婚沙
測光要重點係面上~
因為測光好易會俾純白的婚沙呃左~
如果用550ex 要先focus面上
再做預閃+fel
先再構圖~

如果係影畢業相
一樣要做同樣的動作~
並且定要做足!!
因為黑色的袍更會呃你的測光~
尤其係閃燈~
塊面會over晒!

Very good tips. Thanks a lot. My friend has hired a professional photographer to take wedding pics for her, and I'm just one of her amateur photo takers. I'll remember the misleading environment to exposure. Is it good to adjust exposure compensation with the use of spot metering?

How about white balance? Better to use manual WB? If not, what WB mode can I use?

要視乎需唔需要用閃燈,用閃燈的話只可用閃燈,日光或自動白平衡.
用閃燈的話我覺得用平均測光再加翻因緍紗白色的曝光補償會好啲.用點測光如果人面一暗背景就會好曝.但係用唔到閃燈的話(例如太遠)就要用點測光喇.

I think it could be a good chance to take some snap shots capturing the exciting moments of the couple , the enviroment and guest instead of the traditional wedding shots. Your friend may be happier to see your creative snaps , closeups and funny faces shot. Those boring stupid group shots should be the job of the said professionals as they were paid for that.

Hmmmmm... Try a faster lens. Prime lens is good but changing lens during the session is terrible. A normal range zoom of 2.8 or faster sounds not bad. Performance of 300D rated at iso800 is great indeed. Why not try capturing the atmosphere of the event with large aperture without a flash as you can easily balance out some of the color shift of available lightings.

Thanks oozz. I think creative shots will impress my friend. The church, wedding rings, flowers, lovely children are also part of her memories. The professionals will be very good enough to take "conventional" wedding pics. So I can try to take some pics which most people are not aware of, or something which mos people forget. :)
