話說我和朋友+女友放晒D電子器材入百多元防水袋先由船上落去海灘玩~
但小艇不能太接近個灘，所以要雷霆救兵咁跳落海上岸…

去到沙灘發現個防水袋入面全部都係水@@所有手機、數碼相機全部都泡湯…去了旺角一維修店攪! 一星期後報價…

I once had sea water just splashed onto my Canon S80 while I was standing on the beach, the LCD died almost immediately. Took out the battery and SD and used the hair dryer to blow dry it...didn't work after all. Took the camera to Canon C/S as soon as I returned to HK, and they said it's going to cost $2400 to repair. And the technician was honest enough to advise me not to repair, as there is no way all the salt water can be thoroughly cleaned from the circuit board, and the rusting would set in anyway.

I ended up bought a second hand S80 for $1700....that was 2 years ago.

Lesson :
water damage in electronics is expensive,
salt water damage in electronics is beyond repair.

Warranty had expired already. But still expensive, and no guarantee it would work properly.

Unless it's waterproof cam. Indeed, has been thinking of getting one (e.g. Canon D10 or Sony TX5).

In the meantime, I have a DigiPac (Korean made), which is a double ziplock bag together with Velcro seal. Good for heavy rain, but not tested underwater yet.

所以我既DC就係買三防DC, 出海就用DC, 陸上就用DSLR.

不過就算係三防都好, 出完海唔濕水都好返到屋企都要仔細D清潔下, 特別係有店到海水後更加要清潔, 唔係既D鹽分係機上面都會對部機有慢性既影響.

Yeh ah...a proper thorough fresh water rinse after each use in sea water is very important. Also, before every underwater use, make sure you do a thorough check around all the rubber seal (battery, memory card compartment) for any sand or small object that would prevent a proper seal.

A friend of mine just had his Olympus Mu waterproof DC damaged, apparently due to improper seal. Result : sea water got into the battery and memory card slot, damaging the DC and the xD card completely.
