which one will you choose?

sigma 50 1.4 or canon 50 1.4?

i want to choose sigma but i heard the lens is notorious for 走焦. im using canon eos 40D, poor monitor so it's hard to look on the monitor to decide if my photo has 走焦 or not.

anyway, sigma or canon?

bokeh: sigma wins a lot
sharpness: similar
but Sigma may have AF issue
I once have both but now only keep CANON
beware the AF issue depends also on camera，IF ok on one camera does not implies ok on others.
Also if no AF issue in horizontal shooting may be problematic in vertical shooting!

The S50/1.4 is very very good, but my copy have the problem of mis-focus even after calibration on 5D2. The mis-focus issue is not so serious on 7D, but quite troublesome on 5D2.
I sold my S50/1.4 to a 2nd hand shop. I will buy S50/1.4 again may be after Sigma revise it later. Right now, I am planning to buy S85/1.4, so just keep EF50/1.4 & /1.8

S50.4走焦嚴重, 如果你無諗住去cal鏡, 好快會因為搵唔到支準焦既鏡而放棄.

其實我正受緊走焦之苦。我的心愛24-70有時會走焦，已經痛苦中啦，所以我不想再一次受走焦之苦。也有可能是我的40D body走呱。。。？

S50.4 而家賣嘅鏡身外殼係新塗層, 即是唔係以前嘅"磨沙皮"質地, 包括新嘅S85.4 都係, 其他就唔知.........

我個幾星期前同個fd 去買S50.4, MK肥花果支"前咗", 但平, 於是去天腸, 但貴舊幾, 跟住再去痕輝Cam...., 第一支就OK, 我自然之前買, 都係一支OK, 所以其實試到啱先買, 就冇問題, 啲舖頭都預咗你試.......

有啲Ching 話時走時唔走, 我覺得可能只係手勢問題~~~~~

不過開盡光圈小心個身搖
以為支鏡走焦！

用live view 加腳架試鏡
冇走焦！

In my experience, it is vy difficult to make the focus correct in daily use even the S50.4 has no mis-focus problem... The focal plane is so "thin" and a small movement forward / backward will cause focus problem as well...

Sounds the hand feeling should be more better on new coating, as the old coating doesn't feel comfortable especially if you got sweat on your hand

既然你都睇唔到有走焦的問題，又可來擔心呢？

會否換佐個monitor先買lens比較meaningful？
