new hong goods from broadxxx, each time i press the shutter, the lens has a motor spinning noise for 4 seconds!

is that strange???

never heard this noise with other tele lens or IS lens or USM lens before. this seems abnormal to me.....

It is the sound generated by the stabilizer. Mine is the same. If you turn off the stabilizer, the sound wil disappear. Please try and see.

Don't worry. I have this lens for almost 2 years and the IS noise is louder than most of the other IS lens from Canon. Yeah..It works like a spinner inside...sounds a bit uncomfortable but It is very normal.

If people have never tried this lens befor and you will never know...better not comment it is abnormal....

why don't you bring it to the CS of canon and ask for their comment?

i bought it on sat, and took it to CS the next afternoon.
CS have clearly explained how each part of the nose correlates to which part of the mechanism, and also explain why this noise in sswis is noisier than my other is lens. in fact, "is" is noisy in swis as well. my copy of sswis had been checked with its IS & AF functioning. i've also checked with other displaying copies of swis and sswis which also produce the same noise.
this noise situation, not being a problem, has been annoying many more customers requesting the CS staff for explanation.
