check the compactability between camera and flash.
I used to try my Metz flash on my Canon 20D. with some time, it caused my camera dead. Go back to the factory and change the upper part of the camera around the flash parts. $ 200 CAD!
some people said Canon cannot read Metz flash so well and caused this problem.
From that time on, I use Canon flash on Canon 7D for safe.
I still keep my Meta flash, may be later buy remote control , I can use the Metz as side light with the remote control.

Yes, Canon body is not well compatibile to "雜廠" flash. Canon disable many functions if it detects a non-Canon flash is attached. Nikon had no such problem. Canon protects itself.

But I still always use a expensive Metz (Auto mode) and a cheap Nissin flash (E-ttl and Manual mode). I found it is not worth to buy a Canon flash because of it's notorious poor metering.
