If you want to use 450D DSLR, then make sure you have totally about HKD 10000 or more, for body, lens, flash unit, bags, filters, tripod, ...

Thanks, as I know the market price of it is around HK$5k which included body and lens, am I right? I may not buy other accessories at this moment. I think , I will learn basic techniques first, maybe move on to next step later.

I have both 450D and G10.

G10 - A superb digital camera

For beginners in photography, you would quickly learn a great deal through a prosumer DC like G10. It lets you see how different setting of shutter speed, aperture, ISO senstivity, white balance, and focal length has on an image. However, you would also quickly realize the limitation of a DC. It won't give you noise-free image at high ISO, it can't focus quickly like a DSLR can, it can't do continuous shoot at the speed a DSLR can....etc.

One advantage of G10 is its relative compactness when compared to a DSLR. While it's not exactly a compact camera like IXUS, but its size and weight is still a "packable" camera and you can carry it every day and to almost any occasion.

G10's retail for dealer stock is at about $3800 currently.

450D - the smallest DSLR that has mid-range function and quality

For a beginner in photography, an entry-level DSLR like 450D is plenty to have. Its quick focusing, good noise control even up to ISO 800, full range of control function, and a easy to use menu system, are all that you don't get from the best DC available.

But of course, if you are after the latest functions of taking movies or face-detection system in focusing, you may have to get the models higher up the rank, such as 50D or even 5D, or Nikon D90. If not, 450D is as good as it gets, and its still good value for money. At about $45xx for the body only. It's a bargain! But mind you, even the lightest DSLR with the lightest lens, the weight would be nearly about 1kg or even more, and it would be much more bulky than a DC.

For beginner, I recommend you to get the following,

450D + 18-200 kit set (~$85xx - 90xx)
an extra battery, original Canon (free!)
a good tripod that can take about 2kg load (~$500)
a UV filter as a protector ($100)...to protect your expensive lens.
a shutter cable ($120)....to take night time shots
a soft cover ($140).....I use this, then put the camera in my backpack.
a manual dry box ($200)....to keep your camera and lens dry, so no mould would develop.

Total : ~$9570 - $10070

If that's too much for you, you can go for the small kit set with 18-55 lens, which is only $50xx, so your total setup could cost you as little as $5860.

For an extra $13xx, you can get the 55-250 lens.

So becoming an entry-level DSLRer doesn't have to be too expensive. If that's still too expensive, there's payment by 12 months or 24 months instalment!

So G10 or 450D, it's entirely up to what you want with your photography.

搭單問各位ching，通常D攝影班阿sir係點教架？堂上齋talking定係會帶同學出街影相？其實攝影真係無物標準，你話好時有人話吾好，點樣先平衡到？

當初我都考慮左好耐，到到差不多拍版買時，有位朋友叫我不如直接買DSLR，結果我都係買左部DSLR, 多得呢度O既C HING，1000D O岩晒我買唔起450D o既人。
G10 係好好，易CONTROL，唔洗下下入MENU TUNE ISO, WB，但我又諗既然下一部TARGET 就已經係DSLR，不如乾脆買部入門DSLR慢慢學。
而且DC 的壽命又唔係真係長過DSLR 好多，貶值幅度都幾大，當你上左手之後先再轉DSLR係用家角度又無咁划算。
