i would suggest A16, better focal length and wider aperture
btw, 28-105 is not a really good lens

450 kit lens 18-55IS very good lens for beginners

totally agree with Obi-Wan

the picture quality of 18-55IS is overall better than the 17-85IS (I have one before, but sold already). One disadvantage of 17-85IS is that it is relative heavy with just f5.6 max. aper. at 85mm. Another disadvantage is that the CA of at 17-24 mm are very very heavy.

I am using A16 and tried the kit len few times before. A16 is much better than the kit len because of f2.8
