it doesn't show the real definition/benefit of "liveview" at all, which has been demonstrated by Sony SLT since 2 years ago

I don't mean that Sony is better than Canon. But in term of "liveview", Sony SLT is much more interesting & powerful

But at least Canon foresees the future will be "mirrorless" (with AF by sensor), it's great that she started to innovate on AF by sensor

SONY 係深信Future is Mirrorless, 但EVF 既反應能力不是人人接受到

Canon( and all other brand) camcorder can always do Live view focus, just do not know why they put the software in Canon DSLR like sony and panasonic. DSLR is not the reason. I guess video and camera is 2 different division in Canon. They are not allow to share technology with other division. Where as Sony's and Panasonic's camera were sub-product of their camcorder, so they can use liveview tracking focus from day 1.

AF of P and S entry grade DC in video mode is much better the 1DX or 1DC

For Canon, Nikon, they are traditional DSLR with 反光版 that do most of the focusing and for OVF. There are always time gap for the 反光版 to move up for exposure. So it's not live view. To achieve live view, have to raise up the 反光版 in advance and will lose the function of focusing, but will have to rely on the AF on the sensor - which is not the strength of traditional DSLR

For Panasonic - her camera is EVIL, no反光版, all focusing by sensors + EVF, this is live view

For Sony, her camera is SLT. There is 反光版 but allow most of the light to pass thru it to reach the senors. A small part of light is reflected to EVF for live view. For Sony A99, there are AF sensors on both 反光版 (main) and on the sensors (as assist only). This is also true live view and it's nice innovation. Although it has own weakness (e.g. weaker ISO)

Livewiew - for me, the benefit of liveview is not for 拍片. It allows you to take photos very easily. What you see if what you will shoot. And most information (depth of view, focused parts) etc can be shown in EVF

EVF is very fast & clear specially in outdoor. it is slower & less clear in dark envionment but on another hand, You also can't see thing clearly in the dark even with OVF

- Canon/Nikon are still more advance than Sony in AF focusing. Even Sony goes back to traditional DSLR, it's AF is still not good as Canikon. It is not directly related to SLT +EVF 追焦就一定比吾上用SLR+OVF好

One distinct disadvantage to current EVF technology is that when shooting bursts at higher frame rates, you are not seeing a live preview, rather the frames you have just captured. This can make camera panning (to follow a fast moving subject) virtually impossible to do with any accuracy.

For Nikon you may be correct, but Canon camcorder or professional camera can perform very good live view for many years, they only need to migrate the software and give you function in the menu or a touch screen to activate it.
Since 5D2 I was able to use tracking focus by holding the AF-on button although a bit slow but is possible.

Now I am using a 1DC and I can achieve very fast continuous tracking focus by holding the AF-on button. If they can give me an option in the menu or a touch screen to activate this auto tracking then it will be so simple. Many $2000 DC can do this much better many many years ago.

Canon Panasonic and Sony are all very advance on liveview AF and auto tracking( their video camera can all do it), is just how much they want to give us in their camera.

EVF is very good, I bought the DEV-50 last week, the oled EVF is very very good in good light or low light and also very clear.

For me, liveview is more than AF or Tracking. It is different way of shooting experience that you can preview/liveview before pressing the shuttle button. It is further enhanced by peaking function (famous in Sony SLT or Nex) that make MF or DMF very easily

I doesn't mean it is better than traditional DSLR, they are different ways

kennysansan c-hing: ng ...... I got what you mean and I agree on it, but that is delay of EVF ... the AF is still tracking continously the object when shooting at high burst rate. For me, when I shoot at high burst rate, I don't mind if can live view every shots at all.

Totally agree is a different shooting experienceand very useful. Actually in Canon if you use the quick focus setting in LV, it focus very accurate and fast., but it cannot work in video mode.

If you use Magic lantern custom firm ware to upgrade your EOS camera you can have peekinng to. The peeking from Sony is inherited from Minolta, sure is very useful for manual focus. Basically I cannot see the LCD clearly( I am too old) for manual focus so I need to trust the camera 's AF.Also I do event fancam most of the time, the object move around and I need tracking.

In some older model and my sony camera the EVF will show 'saving file' instead of the object and it took 3 sec to save.I lose track of the object .

Before I turn my 20D to 5D3, I though Live view to me is useless. But after some night shots with my cats (dark environment with only few LEDs strips at corner of home pointing at the floor but not the cat), live view is especially critical to my shots. Since I use 50.2, 0.5 cm deviation from focus can cause disaster to my photos. At such dark environment, the focus won't work precisely even 5D3 centre point. Therefore I use Live view with Manual focus to do my work.
