其實, 兩支鏡 的用處是不太相同.

10-22當然 wide d~, 影景,山水,大廈,街道.......會好用d~
17-40係接近標準鏡...(因你用APSC?)
我認為影人,影中距 好d~

咁....你都要考慮 鏡質素(如 光圈, 構造, 色彩,body, 重量....)

quality, 要多方面比較....但始終, 都係要知道 你想 影甚麼 類型的相?

IR filter very playful! I also have one which cut 1000nm and below. Totally cut all visible light.

Yep, bet i must be playful and funny...but the recent weather......no doubt really bad for shooting with IR.....only thing we can do is wait wait wait.......

Um... I think I capture landscapes more often than standard zoom, 'cause i have already got a 24-105 f/4 L. The reason why i still wanna know the quality for 17-40 is for FF cameras (for future use). Thanks for your detailed reply. :)

I am still waiting for good weather, these days are so cloudy & I really have no mood to take tripod, 50D, 5D mark2 & a few lenses to test.

Many of my friends also want to know how good is 5Dmark2 + 24-105 & compare with R1's 24-120. If this sunday has fine weather. I will bring also R1 to test. (Several years ago I did compare R1's photo with 5D+24-105). The quality of R1 @24 mm is more or less the same as 5D + 24-105.

guys, Infrared sounds funny!
Just curious, does a common DSLR like 5D2 capture and process infrared lights? and, if your filter does cut all the visible light, how do you frame your picture thru the viewfinder??

ericlau49, the low pass filter does allow some infrared wave to pass.

simple step for using IR filter, e.g. 1000 nm cut
1. tripod the DSLR or DC
2. compose
3. use manual focus to focus
4. guess the exposure, e.g. f5.6 10 seconds as a start
5. screw the IR filter but don't change the focus
6. use shutter release cable to take the photo

By the way, I went to the flower show yesterday. It was awesome! My hands are now handicapped as I was taking my full gear squeezing into the crowds for a whole day. I try uploading some pictures here, some of which were taken with my 10-22, while some, with my 24-105. They did a good job!!

以相同焦段來比較的話，17-40mm會比較好，始終是L鏡。
