E520 seems cheaper than 450D.

I tried E520, seem the focusing system is not as smooth and fast as Canon (400D and 40D). Maybe I'm not familiar with Olympus (I'm using Canon)

Both are good cameras. If you compare kit set, I think you may be more satisfied with E520 kit set because of the quality of kit lens and there is no or little need to do post processing.

If you use lens better than the kit lens and want more options of lens, I recommend 450D. In fact, 450D is a very fine machine, better than E520. The catch is that Canon's kit lens is only average compared with Olympus.

In short, if you only go for kit set, then E520. If you will buy more lens and accessory later, 450D is very good.

其實我打算買ｋｉｔ　ｓｅｔ，　再多買一支鏡，　是否４５０ｄ會好Ｄ呢？

I have 400D (sorry not 450D)+18-55IS and E510+14-45 kit (sorry not 520), both kit lens are of more or less the same quality. When compared the 18mm of 400D and 14mm of E510, both cameras with CA (purple fringe) (at this setting, similar to 28mm of full frame). BUT this is much better than the 17-85IS!

So, u don't have to consider CA.

If u like jpeg out of the camera with blue sky, more saturated colour, no post-pocessing required, choose E520

If u like faster focusing speed, better retention of highlight (less dead white), more lenses to choose, lower noise at high ISO, choose 450D

If properly used & u know the limitations of each camera, both cameras can give very attractive results.

(PS, I am not using these cameras now, I am using Nikons for non-job related photography)
