Has anyone use Hasselblad lenses on Canon EOS before? I am thinking fitting the Hasselblad lenses to the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Is it better than L lenses?

Yes, u can buy an adapter to mount Hasselblad to EOS (should be available in Apliu street, SSP, three years ago), OR u can buy a Hasselblad to M42 adapter, then mount to whatever body u would like. BUT the result I did many years ago in film age, did not should the more superior optical quality of Hasselblad lenses

Wow, what a lecture. All is fine, and all is scientific. But, do not forget different camera bodies with the same lens yields different results, and vice versa. Science and math is one thing, but real life is very different.

Anyway, my question has not been answered.

As Canon 5D Mark II demands more from the lens, thus, the instinct is to use a lens that can give fine details and information for the body to use. This is why Canon does not recommend any other lenses other than L series. But there are many superior lenses out there that are far better design than even the L series due to:

1. far superior materials available in those days
2. larger lens size allows more lights, thus more information
3. Even new technology yields better design, but the basic and fundamental physics of light still do not change.

To refine my question, if a better lens is used on the Canon 5D Mark II, such as Hasselblad lenses, will this give better results than, say, L series lenses?

This is a very straight forward question, and I really appreciate a straight forward answer.

Thank you for your reply.

I talked to a few friends who has the Canon 5D Mark II and they all say this body demands so much from the lenses. They all say the same lenses on different Canon EOS models yields rather good results. But when the 5D Mark II is used, the defects are clearly visible. Their recommendations echo what Canon recommends, no less than L series lenses to take full advantage of the new body and its technology.

Having said all these, I was wondering if I put my Hasselblad lenses to the Canon 5D Mark II, even though the lenses are older, but still far superior lenses, would this be better than the L seires lenses.

I do not need AF and I do not need fast speed. Certainly, normal lenses are by design better than zoom lenses as far as sharpness and contrast are concerned. Yes, they loose flexibilities and characteristics of zooms. But I am not looking for those.

Should I use my Hasselblad lenses, or should I get the L series lenses for the 5D Mark II?

A really tough one, so far I find. There must be someone who has experience in this and I hope they can share their experiences and upload some samples.

one of the commands from 5D2 users is the poor performance in wide angle zoom lens, including 24-105L, CA every corner. The same thing occurs in 50D. Some of the problems can be fixed with CA is shooting RAW. I don't have other brand lenses to test, but so far my experiment with 50.8, tamron 90 2.8 gave very good results even in jpeg on both my 5D2 and 50D

I agree with you. I have decided to purchase the 5DII, and try my Hasselblad lenses with it first. I think I will get the kit lens with it, 24-105L, since it is cheaper this way. I will post some pictures for testing.

When I am done with it, I would love to see some comparison with yours with the Tamron lenses.

I have to apologize not typing in Chinese. The fact is simple, I do not know how to type Chinese. Never had time to learn it. So, I stick with the easier US keyboard. Sorry. But I enjoy reading on other members discussions. The language, slangs, and idiom often make me laugh, and laugh hard.

I also can't type chinese if using notebook, netbook or desktop. I can only input chinese when using Iphone.

If u upgrade to 5D2, one thing u must give up is the speed & response. 5D2 cannot compete with 50D in terms of speed and response. 5D2 may be just suitable for static photos such as landscape.
