You really don't have to and shouldn't rush. Wait for the review to come out in the following few months before making your decision. Also, there are usually some firmware upgrade after the first batch. By then the dealer should have enough supply to all the shops and the price will stabilize somewhat. Also, only buy from reputable stores.

Just no reason to pay more just to be the first batch of guinea pigs....

I remember when 450D was first released in January 2008, the RRP (Recommended Retail Price) of the kit set (18-55 F/3.5-5.6) was $6980, the body only $6480. Since then, there have been 2 official price drops in the next 12 months, and the street price were even cheaper.

Finally I bought the it at $5450 in August 2008, just in time for my trip to Europe. Of course the price drop would go on and a kit set is now going at about $5100 only in smaller shops. But I've already clocked up some 7000 shots with this lovely camera.

When it was released in October 2008, its RRP was $4180 (is still the same), and was the price in most shops. I bought it right away 2 or 3 weeks after the first batch shipment came at $3980. No waiting, as I just love its spec over my pre-loved G7, esp. its 28mm wide angle. Now only 6 months later, the price has already dropped by nearly 10% to $3600. 1700 shots over 6 months...not bad lah.

So it all depends how bad you want your camera. Just make sure you put your equipment to good use. Don't let it gather dust!
