The adaptor for G10 is not that expensive. $100 - 150, but it's only made of plastic. But with the outer diameter at 58mm (also filter diameter), you will have very serious problem of vignetting (black corners) at 28mm wide end of the zoom as the view of angle is obstructed by the adaptor which is too narrow.
But then again, the adaptor is intended for adding the 1.4X tele converter lens (~$1,000), with which the tele end can be extended to 196mm. And once again, there will be black corner problem if the camera is set at the 28mm wide end all the way up to about 100mm, so with the tele converter, it's only good for 100-140mm, i.e. 140 - 196mm after the 1.4 multiplication.
An alternative option is go to the US mail order site (http://www.lensmateonline.com/store/g10.html) to order their custom made 2-part adaptor (actully a filter holder) for G10, which measures 72mm in diameter at the outer end, and thus you can fit 72mm diameter filter without the black corner problem.....The adaptor alone is expensive though......it's about US$54 (2 part filter holder + lid). The site also sells CPL filter (Kenko, low-profile, 72mm) at US$70 and Hoya 72mm HMC UV filter at $38. I think you should be able to get cheaper price locally.
And also, there's the extra shipping to HK at about US$15 for 1st class mail. Now that's a total of US$85, i.e. $663....!
Then the 72mm CPL filter and UV protector, if bought locally, I bet they are about $400 to $600 and $150 to $300, depends on brands.
The above setup is indeed quite a bit of investment, and would completely defeat the purpose and convenience of having a compact point-and-shoot camera like G10. Also, all those adaptors will unlikely be of any use on cameras other than G10, so when in the future that you upgrade from G10 to G11, all of them will become useless. The whole setup would then be not much smaller than a 450D with a 17-85 lens (28-136 at 35mm equivalent), but the image quality would be no matach to those of a DSLR....
Bottomline : Think carefully before investing in add-on accesories for prosumer point-and-shoot DC.

i.e. 7 X zoom only for the tele ....seem no worth it ...as the DC have 5 X zoon now
